Ralph has worked for over 25 years as an organizational development consultant, trainer and curriculum developer. He has written over twenty-five training courses with participant materials and leader guides and managed development projects in eastern Africa, the Caribbean and southeast Asia. As a skilled trainer and facilitator, he has spent hundreds of hours leading workshops and training and planning sessions.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Ralph has developed and delivered entrepreneurial development programming that has been responsible for approximately 800 business starts in Winnipeg (1989-1998). These programs have been sponsored by the Winnipeg Core Area Development Agreement, (1989-1992), the Self-Employment Assistance Program, Human Resources Development, Canada (1992-1998) and the Business Development Bank of Canada (1994-1998).

Ralph served as an advisor to enterprise development projects for municipal governments in ARMM, Philippines through the CIDA funded Local Government Support Program (1997).

INSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Ralph served as a Project Director for strengthening institutional capacity to deliver support services to small-scale enterprises. This project was funded by the International Development Research Centre, Ottawa (IDRC) and aimed at transferring know-how through management training programs for participating organizations of Technonet Asia in Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (1993).

As Adult Education Specialist on a project in Zimbabwe (1986-1993), he participated in the development of the business counselling and training capacity within the Development Division of the Small Enterprise Development Corporation (SEDCO).

Among numerous HRD activities, two significant assignments were undertaken in Ethiopia. One was the organization and development of four one-week training programs for managers and supervisors working at the International Livestock Centre for Africa (United Nations, 1992). The other, the design and delivery of a project management training program for IDRC project managers working in developing countries (1989).

In Canada, Ralph led a Consulting Excellence program to train small business consultants for the Mikmakik Development Corporation (1992). He also led a two-year project designed to develop the capability of six external delivery organizations formed to deliver programming to First Nations (Aboriginal Business Canada, Industry Canada, 1991-1992). In the area of Total Quality Management, he implemented two programs, one in Riding Mountain National Park, Manitoba and at Weechi-it-ete-win Family Services Inc. in Fort Francis, Ontario (1994-1996).

CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING

Ralph led a team in strengthening the delivery capacity of First Nations through his work at the Institute for the Development of Indian Government. He served there as leader of a curriculum development team and published a number of competency-based training programs using the DACUM method of curriculum development. Some of the training modules included: Training for Band Self Government, Problem-Solving, Small Business Management, Training for Housing Committees, Training for Education Committees, Project Management and Training for Economic Development Officers.

Ralph has specialized in developing training programs for required and specific on-the job competencies. A sample follows:

COMPUTER-BASED NEW VENTURE FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS

In 1995 Sequus Software was formed to develop the Launch Your Business computer financial planning and feasibility program for new ventures and business expansion projects. Ralph is a partner in the venture. The computer software using the Windows 95 and 98 operating system was launched in early 1999.

INVOLVEMENT IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

Ralph has extensive experience working in developing countries. Ralph served as a CUSO volunteer in Botswana in the 1970's. In the late 1980's and early 1990's he was involved in an eight-year institutional support initiative in Zimbabwe. In the 1990's he worked with Technonet Asia in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal in 1993/94. He has conducted a variety of training and consulting assignments in Ethiopia, Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados and the Philippines.

Ralph served as an agent for Wilson Learning Corporation in western Canada (1978-1984). He is also leader-trained in Situational Leadership by the Blanchard Training and Development Corporation and qualified to deliver the Human Synergistics array of programs and learning technologies. He is also a qualified Myers-Briggs instructor.

Ralph conducted evaluations of IDRC information management projects involving extensive travel to IDRC project sites in Trinidad, Jamaica and Barbados (1993).
