MANAGING & LEADING IN THE NON-PROFIT SECTOR
For many years leaders and managers from the international development sector would gather in Canada to particpate in our world-renowned week long workshop. Typically the participants were a balanced mix of executives from Canadian NGOs and NGO's in developing countries.
SOME HISTORY
In the late 70's, Winnipeg found itself in the forefront of management training and development in the non-profit field as a result of an unpredictable series of events. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) asked a SEQUUS director to develop and implement a one-week
management training program for leaders and managers in the international non-profit sector. Little did we know at that time that this would be the first step on an international journey.
That program moved outside of Canada in 1984 as the "NGO" sector received more and more recognition and governments and other funders scrambled to provide them with assistance to develop their managerial skills. Since our first 'overseas' workshop in Nairobi, the workshop has taken us to Indonesia, Thailand, the Phillipines, the Caribbean, India, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The program has been translated into French for Quebec NGO's and delivered in West Africa. It has also been translated into Spanish for Latin American leaders and into Indonesian for a domestic version in that country.
The management workshops led to other assignments in the same field and before long, the international non-profit sector had become a significant client base.
FOR CANADA's DOMESTIC NON-PROFIT SECTOR
Under the leadership of Heather Erhard the same workshop has been adapted to Canada's non-profit sector and is offered every year in Winnipeg during early June.
